Mango Trees For Sale

We have grafted several varieties of mango trees that are difficult to find elsewhere, including:
  • Tess Pollock
  • Dwarf Hawaiian
  • Rosa
  • Mulgoba
  • Zill Indochinese
  • Ryan
  • Page
These trees are in 3-gallon containers and sell for $35

We have a few extra  Rosigold mango trees... we bought a bunch of this early producer so that we could have more mangos to sell in the beginning of the season.  Instead of planting all of them, we grafted the variety onto already-established plants.
This Saturday only these trees will be on sale for $25.

Of course we also have more than 25 other varieties of mango trees for sale.  Most are in 3-gallon and 7-gallon containers.
In 25-gallon pots we have Keitt, Valencia Pride, Jakarta, and Carrie.

fruit for Saturday, August 30

We will have a few Keitt mangos for sale.
Also we will have Coconuts, Longan, a few Avocado, a few Sugar Apples and Star Fruit (Carambola).
No Jak Fruit today...a couple are very close to ripe.

Last Wednesday of the Season

Wednesday, August 27, will be the last Wednesday of the year that we will be open.

Mango season is winding down, and supplies are getting low.  We still expect to have some mangos in September, but one customer could easily buy all we have.
I will share a Julie Mango during Wednesday hours.

Of course, we will be open Saturday mornings for most of the year.
Atemoya season is just beginning.  A few ilama will be ready soon, and longan might continue to be available for another two months.
Some coconuts will be available.
...and we're still waiting on the second wave of Jak Fruit, the first of which seems like it'll be ready to pick in the next few days.

The First Ilama!

For years an ilama tree has been just taking up space in the back of the property.  This year we finally have fruit!

Sort of tastes like a combination of sugar apple and strawberry.

Fruit for Saturday, August 23

Mangos will be dominated by Keitt, with very few Neelum, Beverly, etc.  Some of the Keitt mangos will be ripe or close to ripe.

Jak Fruit isn't ready yet.  I'm guessing some will be available in the next week.

Other fruit includes a few Sugar Apples, Carambola and a few Canistel.

BYOB... It would be very helpful if you can bring your own bags.  Our supply is dwindling...

Yes, we still have mangos!
Mostly Keitt, Beverly and Neelum... but occasionally a few others
....I still believe mango season will end sometime in September, but my best guess is that very few mangos will make it to September.  What's left on the trees seem to be ripening.

Other fruit include Carambola, a few Canistel, Longan and Sugar Apples.

We are still waiting for our second wave of Jak Fruit

A Few Mango Stats

Here's some interesting facts (some statistics are a few years old)...
  • Most of the commercial mango varieties grown worldwide for international trade were developed in Florida.
  • India produces about one third of all mangos.
  • Over ninety countries grow mangos commercially.
  • Less than 5% of global mango production is traded internationally.
  • The United States imports more mangos than any other country in the world.
  • Mangos brought into the U.S. must be dipped in hot water or irradiated.
  • U.S. domestic production of mangos is approximately 1% of its demand.
  • South Florida is the biggest mango-producing area in the U.S.
  • Locally-grown mangos are MUCH better than imported ones.
  • We are SO fortunate to live in South Florida!

Mango Ballot

We have been creating space for more mango trees, and we would like your input.
The Truly Tropical facebook page has a list of the mango varieties that we sold this season.  Sorry for switching over to fb for this, but their format seems easier.

Sweet Potato Greens

Months ago I started growing sweet potatoes because sweet potatoes are wonderful.  Somewhere along the way I got distracted by their greens.
As you may recall from previous posts, sweet potato greens with fresh mango are the only ingredients for my favorite green smoothie.
Now I'm starting to cook with them.

Sweet Potatoes, Purple Onion and Sweet Potato Greens
