Wednesday Fruit

Of course we will have a lot of mango varieties available.  In addition to the varieties listed for Monday, we have now started to pick some Valencia Pride

Some notes...
Dot, Cushman and Bailey's Marvel look fantastic
Carrie continues to be wonderful... some of the Carries will be available for $2 per pound (most at $3 per pound)
Nice amount of Mallika
An amazing amount of Mulgoba (notoriously a light producer)
The dollar per pound table should be very interesting

As many of you already know, Julie Mango set very few fruit this year.  This afternoon I happened to find one!  Instead of selling it, I'm planning to cut it up Wednesday around 4:05.  If it happens not to be ripe for Wednesday, we will sample a Maha Chinook instead.  I hope that all the customers here at that time will be able to taste it.

Monday Tour

Yes, today the tour is on.
If a band of showers happens to coincide with the tour, we can delay walking about until it passes.
Tour begins at 5pm today.  Cost is $2 per person, plus the cost of whatever fruit you pick and/or select.

~Last night's Haden drops are $5 per bag for as many as you can fit into one of our bags (about the same size as a Publix bag.)

Also.... Several people intend to ship mangos tomorrow.  The most popular way to ship is using the flat rate boxes that the post office provides.  Delivery is guaranteed in three days, so stuff that's mailed tomorrow will arrive before the holiday weekend.  Monday morning I'll pick green mangos that will be suitable for shipping.

Today, June 30, we're planning to have our second fruit-picking tour of the season.  The cost is $2 per person plus the cost of any fruit you pick. (You can also buy fruit that we've picked already.)   Rain is forecasted.  We plan to go ahead with the tour and hope there's some time between showers when we can walk around.  Will check detailed forecasts and update later.

Some stuff about Saturday

Saturday, June 28... we will have the best selection of Carrie Mango of the season, and probably the best selection of mangos for 2014.  Several varieties are either at the end of their seasons while others are at the peak of their seasons.

On Saturday there's a Tropical Fruit Festival at Mounts Botanical Garden in West Palm Beach.
We supply a lot of the mangos they use for tasting and selling.  In past years many people come here afterwards to buy more mangos.  To accommodate these potential customers, we will be open until 3pm this Saturday only.

We will have a fantastic selection of mangos!  Cogshall, Glenn and Lemon Meringue are ripening rapidly, so this might be the last Saturday for these varieties.

Nam Doc Mai are finally starting to ripen.  Next week we should have more than this week.
Bailey's Marvel, Bombay, Jacqueline, Dupuis Saigon, Cushman, Southern Blush and Carrie are close to peak season.
Many people intend to ship green Carrie mangos on Monday, so I'll try to pick lots of green mangos for that.  It looks like Carrie season might not last much longer.

We have lots of wonderful mangos right now.  I really don't know how we will find room for all the varieties.

This Saturday on our $1/pound table we will have some completely ripe and/or blemished Lemon Meringue.

This Saturday in our $2/pound area we will have Irwin, Haden (quantity discount still available), Graham, Rosa, Van Dyke, Joellen, Florigon and Carrie drops.  (I've recently cut up LOTS of Carrie drops and seldom is there any noticeable damage... probably because we keep our trees short and mulch heavily.)

Haden Mangos are reaching the end of their season.  If you happened to buy Hadens from our first picking of them and you were disappointed in them for any reason, please come in soon for replacement fruit.

The next fruit-picking tour is Monday at 5pm.

Fruit for Thursday, June 26

The mangos are great.  Lemon Meringue, Cogshall, Rosa, Edward, Tess Pollock and Glenn won't be around much longer.
We will have a great selection of Carrie, Cogshall, Glenn, Fairchild, Ryan, Jacqueline, Fairchild, Bailey's Marvel, Lemon Meringue, and (of course) Haden.
More on the bounty in the morning...

Fruit for Wednesday, June 25 ...Special: Some Mangos $5 per Bag

Haden Mangos are Plentiful.
We have 3 different categories of Hadens...
  • Best Grade for $2 per pound ($1.50 for 20 pounds and over)
  • Recent Drops and Blemished for $1 per pound
  • Others for $5 per Bag (bags usually hold about 10 pounds)

Cogshall, Glenn and Lemon Meringue are ripening quickly and will probably not be available next week.
Carrie Mango is also ripening quickly, but probably will be available through next Saturday.
Bailey's Marvel, Dupuis Saigon, Pim Seng Mun are all looking great.
...hopefully more fruit details to follow

We've had two unfortunate incidences this week.  Yesterday afternoon some new customers came in and were offended that they had to pay for mangos.  They bought about $15 of mangos and then intentionally ran over our mailbox.  Monday a landscape truck pulled up next to our fence and picked boxes of mangos.
A police officer just stopped by.  He said anyone can call the police department anonymously to report suspicious activity.  The Non-Emergency number  is 561-243-7800.  Also he is sending an email to all Delray Beach officers and they will cruise by more frequently.

Special for Tuesday, June 24.... Open 4-5 pm

I just finished picking Carrie Mangos.  Many were almost fully-ripened on the trees... gorgeous!
Mostly because of the Carrie Mangos, I've decided to open tomorrow, Tuesday, 4-5pm.  We won't have all varieties available for sale and we won't have the tasting tray, but we will have some fabulous mangos!
...definitely will have Glenn, Haden, Cogshall, Pim Seng Mun, Stringies, Tess Pollock and Lemon Meringue

also.. I just found a 7.75 pound Golden Pillow Jak fruit

Fruit for Monday, June 23

The mangos are amazing!  I've spent many hours this weekend organizing all the different varieties, but now we're ready for a spectacular Monday.
Glenn mango looks great, but this will probably be the last week for it.  Lemon Meringue has about 10% of the crop left on the trees, but we have several nice boxes of that variety picked.  We will have several boxes of Carrie also.  Pim Sen Mun is reaching the end of its season, but we have two boxes of them.  Other varieties with significant quantities... Bombay, Bailey's Marvel, Edward, Southern Blush, Cushman, Duncan, Fairchild, Dot, Rosa, Joellen, Tess Pollock, Cogshall, Choc-anon and Dupuis Saigon.

We will offer several varieties at $2 per pound including Van Dyke, Haden and Florigon.

Also, we will have some sapodilla and canistel available.

Also, some Sapodilla

Fruit for Thursday, June 12

We sold the two small jak fruit today. We will have all the same varieties of mangos plus a few Alfonso and Dupuis Saigon.  Lemon Meringue will be very plentiful at least through the end of this week.

Fruit for Wednesday, June 11

Mangos are looking fantastic!

...It's peak or close to peak season for many varieties, so the selection is terrific.  We should have plenty of mangos for the whole time we're open (4-6pm).  I'm fairly certain we won't even run out of Lemon Meringue.

I just picked a nice selection of Bailey's Marvel... first of the season!
Lemon Meringues are plentiful... these next few days are probably peak season for this variety.
We have a nice supply of Cogshall.
I found several nice Tess Pollock.
A lot of Glenn are ripening.
We've started to pick Carrie.
Southern Blush should be available through next week.
Other varieties available include Jakarta, Edward, Pim Seng Mun, Dot, Florigon, Joellen, Choc anon, Cushman, and Philippine.

Haden Mangos continue to be on special...buy 20 pounds or more and pay just $1.50 per pound.

Other fruit:
For more than a month I've been watching the two biggest jak fruit on one of our trees.  Today two small jak fruit on the same tree ripened.  The largest two did not.
Tomorrow a 5 pound and an 8 pound Golden Pillow jak fruit will be available for sale.

Also, Sapodilla

It might rain during mango hours, but we will be open rain or shine.

Hadens and Lemon Meringues!

Finally we have enough ripe fruit!

Lemon Meringue Mangos are ripening quickly.  I'm betting this week will be the strongest, then supply will start tapering.

Haden season is extremely strong right now also.  Consider freezing some for the fall and winter.  Frozen Hadens taste much better than any mango you can buy in the grocery store.  Also Hadens are great mangos for chutney, dehydrating, eating fresh, using in smoothies... and, according to one of our dear customers, making mango wine.

  • Lemon Meringue seem to be ripening every hour.  We already have quite a few picked for tomorrow.
  • Jakarta
  • Southern Blush should continue for more than a week
  • Edward
  • Florigon
  • Cushman
  • Pim Seng Mun
  • Glenn
  • Cogshall are ripening beautifully

Fruit-picking Tour Sunday, June 8

Our first fruit-picking tour of the season will start at 5pm.  Cost is $2 per person, plus the cost of any fruit that you pick.  It's fine if you don't want to pick fruit.  There will be some fruit available for sale.  If you would like to buy plants, please wait until after the tour.  We will have more time to spend with you then.  Also, if you want to buy a mango tree, the tour might help you make a better decision on which variety to buy.
We will split into two groups, one led by Har and the other led by me.  Part of the tour will include history of the grove and descriptions of different fruits.  Questions are welcome.
Tours usually last about 45 minutes.  If rain is likely, you might want to bring an umbrella. You're also welcome to bring your own picker.  (We have some to share.)

  • Cogshall
  • Lemon Meringue
  • Jakarta
  • Cushman
  • Tess Pollock
  • Glenn
  • Edward
  • Southern Blush
  • Florigon

For some of the aforementioned varieties we will have only a few pieces of fruit.  The good news is that next week will be better!  Of course we will check all the trees before we open Saturday morning to pick anything else that is ready.

Hadens are plentiful and gorgeous.  Since we have a lot of them, we are offering a quantity discount.  Buy at least 20 pounds and the price is $1.50 per pound.  If you buy less than 20 pounds, the price is $2 per pound.

Glenn Mangos are even scarcer..  next week will be better
We will have Jakarta, Florigon and some Edward.

Also...
Tamarind

Fruit for Monday, June 2

Of course I'll check for more fruit this morning, but right now it looks like Jakarta, Cogshall and Florigon will be the main varieties of mangos.
Ripe Lemon Meringues are still very hard to find.
I'll pick a few Carries.  We will probably have a few Southern Blush, Cushman, Edward, Pim Seng Mun
Next week Carrie and Lemon Meringue will be better.  Also Tess Pollock, Philippine, Bailey's Marvel, Dupuis Saigon will probably begin to ripen.

Recently I've had several people ask for "raw mango."  The green Hadens should be good for this use.  Most of the Hadens will take a week or so to ripen.

Other fruit available include Tamarind and Sapodilla.
