Possible Pruning Primer

Several people have expressed interest in learning about pruning. Since we have started trimming trees, this seems like the time to schedule a workshop.  I'd like some feedback on what days might work out for those who are interested. I prefer early Wednesday or Sunday morning.
This workshop/demonstration will cover various approaches to different sizes and different growth habits of trees.
If you're interested, please reply to this post or talk with me the next time you buy fruit... let me know what day and time would work for you.
Cost will be $5 per person.

The Care and Keeping of Mangos

A few quick reminders....

  • Please do not store mangos in plastic bags.
  • Ripen mangos in paper bags or on your countertop.  Warmer temperatures cause mangos to ripen more quickly, so putting your fruit on your porch will cause it to ripen more quickly than it would in air conditioning.
  • Treat Mangos like Bananas... Do Not Refrigerate!  Cold Temperatures alter the taste and texture of the fruit.  Freezing excess ripe fruit is better than refrigerating it.

Fruit for Saturday, June 18

GREAT NEWS!!!
We have LOTS more mangos than last Saturday!

Mango varieties will include...

  • Glenn
  • Dupuis Saigon
  • Dwarf Hawaiian
  • Lemon Meringue
  • Pim Sane Mun
  • Graham
  • Carrie
  • Tess Pollock
  • Southern Blush
  • Rosa
  • Haden
  • a few of several other varieties
This will be the best selection of the season for Glenn, Dupuis Saigon and Dwarf Hawaiian.  All of these varieties are very high quality and popular.
Glenn is the favorite variety of many of our customers.  Dwarf Hawaiian and Dupuis Saigon are less well-known.
Dwarf Hawaiian is a cross between the Julie and Kent varieties. Some of our customers like the Dwarf Hawaiian at full ripeness when the flesh becomes creamy.  Most people prefer it slightly under ripe.  In either stage, Dwarf Hawaiian is rich and very sweet, with a noticeable coconut taste.
Dupuis Saigon is a very sweet Asian type mango that has a hint of orange.  Last year we had very few Dupuis Saigon, so many people did not have the opportunity to fall in love with it.

Other Fruit...

  • Coconuts
  • Sapodilla
  • Jak Fruit
